Notes on "Cynthia" and "Stille nach dem Schuss" from Michelle Nance

Duet:
Very nice movement invention.  Interesting dynamics, phrasing and motifs.  It is refreshingly "dancy"!  I would like to see the relationship between the two dancers developed a bit more before Shuan exits (did he exit, or is he still on stage watching you?)  What is the relationship?  He seems to be a stoic/support figure in the beginning, while you are the more expressive one.  Highlight this contrast more.  Later, Shuan dances more with you.......why does his 'character' change?  Could y'all switch roles, and you be more stoic for a while before both dancing?

Look at the spacing when you are both dancing together in unison for the first time......either closer together, or one of you more downstage than the other, will give it more interest.

There is a lovely sense of call-and-response happening in a few moments....could this structure be developed a bit longer?

Thank you for that slow reaching gesture in unison!  So tender....and it breaks up the monotony of the fastness.  Same with the stillness - provides nice contrast.

Once this is clean and fully "felt" - it is going to be so powerful!  Nice Work!

Group:
What is the music for this piece?

Great sense of space (using it all) right from the beginning.  Each dancer is introduced, yet they form a cohesive group.

Maybe too soon to all face the front?  Could they do the beginning of that first phrase in different facings?

Nice seamless transitions.  Entrances/exits are working effectively.  The trio is nicely crafted.  Maybe let them stand there a bit longer (after the partnering) before they start the next movement phrase that brings on other dancers.......just to provide a transition between the "partnering" and the "dancing"

Great work - keep going with it.

Are those your only pieces?  Duet and group?
